Despite losing to GM Wang Hao of China in the first round, he did not lose hope to regain the points and eventually became the Champion! He scored 6.5 points and it consisted of 1 loss, 3 draws, and 5 straight wins.

His victorious wins were Super GMs MVL of France, Tari of Norway, Topalov of Bulgaria, Radjabov of Azerbaijan, and World Champion Magnus Carlsen!
